Get Your Band Out Of The Garage And Into A Local Gig
So, you want to start a band. Awesome! But where do you start? Well, the first step is to get your band out of the garage and into a local gig.
Now, there are a lot of ways to do this, but the easiest way is to find a bar or club that hosts live music and send them an email or call them up asking if they would be interested in having your band play. You can also post on online forums or social media groups asking if anyone knows of any venues looking for bands.
Once you've found a venue, the next step is to put together a set list. This can be tricky since you'll want to make sure that all of your songs are appropriate for the venue and audience. You don't want to play too many slow songs at a rock bar or too many fast songs at a blues club.
So, how do you put together a set list? One approach is to come up with a list of 10-12 songs and then mix and match them depending on the audience and vibe of the venue. Another approach is to come up with 2-3 sets of different lengths and use them depending on how long the gig is.
Once you've got your set list together, it's time to start practicing. A lot. You'll want to make sure that all of your songs are tight and that everyone in the band knows their parts inside out.
The final step is to promote the gig. Start by creating an event on Facebook and invite all of your friends. You can also create posters and flyers and distribute them around town. Finally, make sure to contact local newspapers and radio stations and see if they're interested in doing a story or interview about your band.
With a little bit of hard work and planning, you can get your band out of the garage and into a local gig!
