USA, December 2024 – Americans United Against Destructive Driving (AUADD), a 501(c)(3) all-volunteer charity, has been a beacon of hope for safer roads for over two decades. Focused on educating teens about safe driving, advocating for legislative change, and offering unique victim services, AUADD has reached over 400,000 high school students nationwide through its renowned “Turn On Safe Driving” program. The organization is now poised to take its mission even further by transitioning its educational program into an app, aiming to reach over one million teens annually.
Founded by William M. Piecuch, Jr., AUADD has been a tireless advocate for highway safety since its inception 21 years ago. “We don’t want to be the best-kept secret in highway safety,” says Piecuch. “Our program is proven to save lives, and we need to expand our reach to ensure that even more teens are educated before they hit the road.”
The “Turn On Safe Driving” program has been one of AUADD’s primary successes. Since 2003, this free program has educated high school students on the dangers of distracted and impaired driving. Currently available in paper format, the organization is working on a digital version that will allow them to reach millions more teens each year. AUADD is seeking corporate partnerships and individual donations to help fund the app’s development and ongoing maintenance costs.
In addition to its education efforts, AUADD provides vital services to victims of destructive driving crashes. Unique in the highway safety space, the organization helps low-income families who have lost their only vehicle in a crash by offering free transportation for work, medical appointments, and other essential travel needs. This service is a lifeline for families struggling to maintain normalcy after a crash.
AUADD’s influence also extends to legislative efforts. The organization has been instrumental in advocating for the use of Breath Alcohol Ignition Interlock Devices (BAID) in many states, furthering its mission to reduce impaired driving nationwide.
“We’re not just a charity,” Piecuch emphasizes. “We’re in the business of saving lives, and everything we do—whether it’s educating teens, providing victim services, or pushing for stronger laws—is all about making our roads safer.”
Despite being a relatively unknown entity in the highway safety world, AUADD continues to make a significant impact through its proven educational program and victim services. With the app development project on the horizon, the organization is excited about its potential to save even more lives and is seeking the necessary support to ensure that this life-saving program reaches its full potential.
