[Nationwide] - Lori G. McDowell, a competitive sport fishing lady angler and author, is set to release her debut children's book, Fishing With Jesus on a Small Boat, on March 18, 2025. The book introduces young readers to the world of sport fishing while highlighting the importance of faith, family, and teamwork. Available for pre-order on major platforms like Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and Apple Books. Her book seeks to inspire children to explore the outdoors, build their faith, and value the bonds formed along the way.
Lori, a new tournament angler with the Lifeline Sportfishing Team, has participated in high-profile events, including the Sport Fishing Championship on television. Most recently, her team won the Gulf Division which advanced them to the Zane Grey Championship in Cabo, Mexico where they were crowned 2024 Champions. She hopes to inspire women to get involved in a male-dominated sport. Lori’s life experiences have driven her to share her story in ways that extend beyond the water. "Sport fishing has taught me so much about determination, patience, and teamwork," Lori shares. "This book is a way to pass those lessons on to the next generation, especially through the lens of faith, family and adventure."
The idea for Fishing With Jesus on a Small Boat grew out of her personal journey and the family’s shared experiences on the water. "I wanted to create something that children could relate to, where they see not just the excitement of fishing but also the deeper lessons about working together and building a personal relationship with Jesus," Lori explains. "Fishing isn't just about the catch—it's about the journey and the people we share it with."
The story follows a family who embark on a fishing adventure, recognize life’s challenges, the power of unity, and a confidence to endure. Lori hopes the series will spark curiosity and courage in young readers, encouraging them to discover the joys of outdoor exploration, build meaningful relationships, and embrace life's ups and downs with optimism.
The book marks the first in a planned series that will continue to explore themes of family, adventure, and personal growth, all framed within the context of sport fishing. As a wife, mother, and active member of her community in Carrollton, Georgia, Lori is committed to creating space for more diverse voices in traditionally male-dominated sports.
“It's not just about fishing,” Lori adds. "It's about showing kids where our help comes from, supporting those around us, and overcoming challenges. Whether it's on the water or in life, nothing is impossible with Jesus."
In addition to her work as an author and angler, Lori is a licensed real estate agent and a passionate advocate for reeling in God’s promises. Her hope is that this book series will not only entertain but also provide valuable lessons about believing HIS promises, teamwork, and the importance of never giving up.
Fishing With Jesus on a Small Boat will be supported by a variety of promotional efforts, including book signings and social media outreach. Lori is excited to connect with readers, educators, and families, sharing her message of hope and inspiration.
