[NATIONWIDE - MARCH 7 2025] - The Intersection Permanent Cosmetics (The Intersection PC) is a studio specializing in paramedical tattooing, including 3D areola restoration, scar camouflage, and hyperrealism brows. Founded by Ari Collins, a medical professional with over two decades of experience in surgical specialties, the studio combines medical knowledge with artistic application to support clients seeking restorative cosmetic procedures.Collins has been recognized in various publications, including Diversity In Action Magazine, AORN Outpatient Surgery Magazine, and Millennium Magazine, where she appeared on two covers. She was also named a 2023 Who’s Who In America honoree. The motivation behind The Intersection PC is rooted in Collins’ professional experiences and observations of underrepresentation in the field of paramedical tattooing. While working alongside plastic surgeons on mastectomy procedures, she became aware of the lack of Black providers performing areola restoration tattoos. Her research confirmed that in many states, Black women seeking this service would struggle to find providers with experience working on darker skin tones. This realization, along with the impact of the film God’s Grace: The Sheila Johnson Story, inspired her to pursue specialized training in the field.
Over the course of 1.5 years, Collins completed training in permanent makeup techniques, earning 12 certifications, including those in areola tattooing and scar camouflage. She later relocated from Colorado to Georgia to serve a more diverse client base. In her work, she develops custom pigment blends tailored for darker skin tones, a service that is not widely available due to the hesitancy some practitioners express when working with darker skin.Breast cancer statistics highlight the importance of accessible areola restoration services. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Black women in the United States have a 40% higher mortality rate from breast cancer compared to white women, despite similar incidence rates. The American Cancer Society (ACS) reports that breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death among women, and an estimated 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with the disease in their lifetime. These disparities are attributed to factors such as differences in tumor characteristics, access to care, and systemic barriers within healthcare.By offering specialized areola tattooing and scar camouflage, The Intersection PC seeks to address these disparities by ensuring that women of color have access to high-quality, restorative cosmetic procedures. Unlike many permanent makeup artists who enter the field from a beauty background, Collins brings a combination of medical training and technical artistry to her work. The studio is designed to be an inclusive space where clients from all backgrounds can receive paramedical tattooing services in a professional setting. “Representation in this field is important,” says Collins. “For many women, reconstructive tattooing is the final step in their healing journey. It’s important that they have providers who understand their unique needs.”For more information, visitThe Intersection Permanent Cosmetics. Follow onFacebook andInstagram.
