Since its debut in 2016, Justice on Trial: Reloaded has captured hearts and minds, consistently achieving sold-out performances across theaters nationwide, following a successful two-year engagement in New York City. The production presents a timely and impactful narrative that follows two civil rights attorneys who file a groundbreaking lawsuit against the United States, seeking a staggering $18 trillion in compensatory damages for the descendants of formerly enslaved Africans. Furthermore, the attorneys are pursuing an additional $32 trillion in punitive damages for the enduring suffering experienced over 240 years of slavery, coupled with 160 years of systemic oppression.
This powerful narrative is enriched by its innovative storytelling, featuring time-traveling witnesses, the most notable being Harriet Tubman, portrayed by acclaimed actress and gospel singer Alicia Robinson Cooper, who is also Cooper's spouse. Alicia has garnered national acclaim as a featured lead singer on John P. Kee's album Lily in the Valley. Additionally, the cast includes the poignant character of Emmett Till, whose tragic story is immortalized in the performance, played by W. E. B. Du Bois's great-grandson, Jeffrey Du Bois Peck.
Chad Lawson Cooper, alongside his co-executive producer, the celebrated actor Harry Lennix, expresses excitement for this educational yet entertaining production at Howard University. The star-studded cast will also feature Ralph Carter, beloved for his role as Michael on the iconic television series Good Times, who will portray one of the civil rights attorneys.
