NYC Rabbi Responds to DC Embassy Murders by Expanding Jewish Security Efforts

DC Attack Sparks Nationwide Security Push for Synagogues, Schools & Jewish Community Centers

Washington, DC – The tragic murder of two Israeli embassy employees in Washington, DC on May 21, 2025, has left Jewish communities across the US shaken and on high alert. In response, a Brooklyn-based rabbi and security entrepreneur is expanding efforts to protect vulnerable Jewish institutions like synagogues, schools, and community centers with proactive, technology-driven security solutions.

“The tragedy in DC underscored that antisemitism remains a persistent and growing concern that demands our attention,” said Rabbi Yossi Eliav, director of Chabad of Clinton Hill in Brooklyn, NY. “We need to empower our communities with more robust security tools to safeguard lives and ensure safety.

Now, following the DC embassy attack, US Virtual Guard is rolling out a new service to support high-risk Jewish events by offering short-term services where professionally trained guards monitor live camera feeds in real time. These personnel are equipped to observe suspicious behavior and maintain direct communication with on-site security personnel—enabling swift responses to potential risks.

“The long-term fight against antisemitism begins with education,” said Eliav. “In the short term, we need to prioritize proactive measures to ensure the safety of our communities.
