Heartbroken 87-Year-Old Veteran and Cancer Patient Seeks Help to Find Stolen ‘Lucky’ Dog Following Multi-State Carjacking

Cross-Country Search Underway for Stolen Airedale Terrier Mix in Wake of Arrest of Carjacking Suspect

Nash County, NC / Pittsburgh, PA, October 2, 2024 — In a heartfelt appeal for assistance, 87-year-old veteran Willard Martz, currently battling cancer, is desperately searching for his cherished dog, Lucky, stolen during a shocking carjacking incident in Mount Pleasant, Pennsylvania. This heartbreaking event occurred on September 23, 2024, at a Tractor Supply store, where Lucky, a beloved 10-year-old Airedale Terrier mix, was taken from Mr. Martz—one of his last connections to his late son. The suspect, Kenneth Crider, was apprehended on September 28, 2024, following a high-speed chase in North Carolina. Crider claims he released Lucky at a rest stop somewhere along the route between Myrtle Beach, SC, and Nash County, NC, but has not disclosed the exact location, leaving the search for Lucky uncertain. Possible (though unconfirmed) sightings of Lucky have been reported in and around Selma, NC; Nashville, NC; and Baltimore City, MD. Additionally, there were reports of him being seen on September 23 at a Walmart in Connellsville, PA. Authorities and Mr. Martz are appealing to the public for vigilance — Lucky could be just about anywhere and is in urgent need of help. He is described as a scruffy, dark-colored, larger male dog, about 55 pounds, wearing a black collar with a flea collar attached and is microchipped. Lucky may potentially have a red leash. For Mr. Martz, the return of Lucky is not just about having a pet; it represents a connection to family and a source of comfort during a difficult time as he battles cancer. Lucky was also his late son’s dog, adding an extra layer of meaning and closeness. To help facilitate Lucky’s safe return, a generous reward of $5,000 has been offered.
