BusinessRate Expands Business Recognition Beyond Reviews to Measure Companies Visibility on Google, Maps, and AI Search
The company that scores roughly 29 million U.S. businesses now recognizes them for credibility, visibility, and discoverability, and helps them grow all three.

Ask ChatGPT for the best painters in Hampden County, Massachusetts, and it names one company first. Search “hair salon Grosse Pointe” on Google Maps, and a handful of shops appear before the customer ever scrolls. Search “bar & grill Surfside Beach, Texas,” and one restaurant’s own website sits at the top of the page.
Each of those businesses earned a BusinessRate award this month. Not because they bought an ad, and not because of a star rating alone, but because they showed up at the top when real customers went looking.
That is the shift BusinessRate is built around. The way customers find a local business has changed, and the way businesses are recognized has to change with it.
The Front Door Has Moved
For years, the online review was the deciding factor. Today it is one signal among several. A customer might start on Google Search, check the map, and then ask an AI assistant for a recommendation, all before making a single call. A business can have hundreds of five-star reviews and still be invisible at each of those moments.
“Business owners used to ask us how good their reviews were,” said Kyle Pittman, founder and partner at BusinessRate. “Now the better question is whether customers can find you at all. We search the way a customer searches, and the business near the top wins. That is what our recognition measures now.”
Built on Data Since 2011
BusinessRate has been measuring local business performance for more than a decade. The platform scores roughly 29 million U.S. businesses on a 0–300 scale using public Google review data, and each score is broken into three parts:
Benchmark, a composite score that compares a business fairly against others in its own category and market. A diner in a small town is not measured against a steakhouse in a major city.
Momentum, which reflects the last 90 days, so the score tracks how a business is performing now rather than how it performed years ago.
Endurance, which reflects a business’s full track record, rewarding owners who have delivered consistently over time.
The result is a score that accounts for recency, market context, and how much data stands behind it. A business with a short, recent run of excellent service is not buried by a competitor resting on reviews from five years ago.
Recognition, Expanded: Credibility, Visibility, and Discoverability
BusinessRate’s rankings and recognition have always been grounded in data. The expanded rankings and recognition programs now measures three things that matter to the modern customer:
Credibility. Whether AI assistants such as ChatGPT name the business when a customer asks for a recommendation.
Visibility. Where a business ranks when customers search for its category and city on Google Search.
Discoverability. Where a business ranks when customers search for its category and city using Google Maps.
The method is simple and transparent. BusinessRate runs the same search a customer would run, records the result, and recognizes the businesses that come out on top.
From Recognition to Growth
With publicly available rankings published on their site, BusinessRate shows a business where it stands among competition. BusinessRate’s newest services help it move up.
AI Visibility. BusinessRate publishes articles about a business on BusinessRate.com, covering the business itself, its award, and its ranking. The articles are built to be found by AI assistants and search engines, go live within about a week, and are updated every month with the business’s newest reviews.
Social Solved. Many local owners know they should post consistently on social media and simply do not have the time. Social Solved delivers new AI-generated videos of the business every week, made from the business’s own photos and featuring a BusinessRate presenter. There is no camera crew and no filming day. Videos arrive ready for Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok.
Social media management. For businesses that want a full content program, BusinessRate’s social team handles planning, creative, and posting, including the talking-head and customer-spotlight formats that have driven the growth of BusinessRate’s own Instagram audience.
Award and tour videos. Newly recognized businesses can also add a short video of a BusinessRate presenter holding their award at their location, or an influencer-style tour of the business, delivered within one to two business days.
Why It Matters for Local Businesses
Most local business owners are excellent at the work they do and have little time to think about search rankings or AI. Larger competitors have marketing departments. A family-owned shop has the owner, often working late.
BusinessRate closes that gap. An independent business that earns the top spot in a search gets the same recognition a regional chain would, and it gets practical tools to stay there.
“The best business in town should be the easiest one to find,” Pittman said. “Too often it isn’t. Our job is to show owners exactly where they stand and give them a clear way to get to the top.”
