The Chicago White Sox commenced their 2025 Spring Training on February 22 with a matchup against the Chicago Cubs at Camelback Ranch in Glendale, Arizona. A New Era Under Manager Will Venable
Following a historically challenging 2024 season, where the White Sox recorded a franchise-worst 41-121 record, the organization appointed Will Venable as the new manager on October 31, 2024. Venable, previously the associate manager for the Texas Rangers, brings a fresh perspective aimed at revitalizing the team's performance.
Roster Overhaul and Youth Integration
The offseason witnessed significant roster changes as the White Sox embraced a rebuilding strategy. Notable departures included ace pitcher Garrett Crochet, traded to the Boston Red Sox, and the decision to decline Yoán Moncada’s $25 million option for 2025 due to his ongoing injury struggles.
To bolster the roster, the team signed several veterans to short-term deals, including left-handed starter Martín Pérez, infielder Josh Rojas, and outfielder Michael Taylor. Taylor, 33, is renowned for his defensive prowess, having secured a Gold Glove Award in 2021.
In line with their rebuilding focus, the White Sox are integrating top prospects into the Spring Training roster. Among them is left-handed pitcher Ky Bush, ranked as the organization’s 14th top prospect. Bush showcased impressive statistics with the Double-A Birmingham Barons in 2024, posting a 2.12 ERA over 80 2/3 innings. However, his season was cut short due to Tommy John surgery, sidelining him for the entire 2025 season.
Spring Training Broadcasts and Fan Engagement
The White Sox have announced a comprehensive Spring Training broadcast schedule to enhance fan engagement. Chicago Sports Network (CHSN) will televise seven games from Arizona, starting on February 24 against the Texas Rangers and concluding on March 24 versus the Oakland Athletics. Additionally, ESPN Chicago (AM-1000) will air ten games, ensuring fans have ample opportunities to follow the team's progress.
Looking Ahead to the 2025 Season
Despite the challenges of the previous season, the White Sox aim to leverage Spring Training as a platform for development and cohesion. The blend of veteran experience and emerging talent reflects the organization’s commitment to a strategic rebuild. As the regular season approaches, the team aspires to surpass expectations and lay the foundation for sustained success in the coming years.
