Garnet Harrison And Pierre Rouge Capital's Approach To Carbon Origination

How a Hong Kong-managed carbon business is developing project-level removals, private credit, and registry infrastructure for international buyers.

Carbon markets can be discussed in terms of prices, policies, exchanges, and demand. For Pierre Rouge Capital, the work begins at the project.

The firm originates and advises on high-integrity carbon removal projects, with private credit as part of its model. Its work covers origination, certification advisory, private credit, and registry infrastructure. Its pipeline spans forestry and reforestation, blue carbon, biochar, biowaste, and agricultural projects across Southeast Asia and New Zealand.

That project-level approach reflects a view that the quality of a carbon credit depends on what happens before a tonne reaches the market: how land is assessed, how a project is designed, how removals are measured, and how the resulting credit is documented.

At the center of that work is Garnet Harrison, founder and chairman of Pierre Rouge Capital.

From Investment Experience To Carbon Origination

Harrison brings more than two decades of experience across asset management and private investment in London, Hong Kong, and Asia. His background includes Schroder Investment Management and M&C Corporation, as well as investment work involving critical materials.

At Pierre Rouge Capital he founded the company, designed CarbonTrace, originated the credit pipeline, and leads the team and investor relations.

The group is managed from Hong Kong through Highland Management Group Limited. Pierre Rouge Capital Ltd is incorporated in England and Wales. Origination staff are resident in the regions where projects are located.

Building Carbon Projects At Source

Pierre Rouge Capital identifies and develops carbon removal projects at source across several project types and geographies.

Its certification advisory work covers site and land-use review, eligibility under Verra and Gold Standard, project design documentation, and methodology selection. This work is prepared in-house before projects move to independent validation and registration.

The credibility of a credit depends on how carefully a project establishes its baseline, demonstrates additionality, measures results, and maintains evidence through the credit's lifecycle. For project developers and landholders, that means translating activity on the ground into documentation and verification that can withstand scrutiny from buyers, registries, and auditors.

CarbonTrace And The Question Of Provenance

Pierre Rouge Capital has developed CarbonTrace as the registry layer for the tonnes it originates. CARBONTRACE is a registered trade mark at the UK Intellectual Property Office.

CarbonTrace is a register of title. An independent verifier certifies the tonnage. Each verified tonne is then issued on Ethereum, carrying its project of origin, methodology, vintage, and supporting calculation record. Ownership and movement are auditable, and retirement is permanent and recorded on-chain.

The CarbonTrace Token, or CTT, is a non-transferable record of a verified carbon unit. No tradeable token is issued. The firm uses a public blockchain as a ledger so that buyers and auditors can verify a tonne's provenance independently.

Traceability and double counting remain central concerns for buyers, and the register addresses both at the level of the individual tonne.

Where The Credits Go

Demand for high-integrity removals is concentrated among corporate buyers in the United Kingdom and the European Union, and Pierre Rouge Capital places its credits with those buyers.

The firm sources across several geographies and project types. That spread reduces dependence on any single jurisdiction's regulatory framework or approval process.

A Market Where Quality And Documentation Matter

Buyers now ask where a credit came from, how it was measured, whether the claimed environmental benefit is credible, and whether ownership can be demonstrated.

Pierre Rouge Capital's public market research, published through its Carbon Strategy Group, examines carbon-market development, origination standards, regulation, and the factors affecting the quality and pricing of carbon removals. That research sits alongside the firm's project work.

Building Infrastructure Around The Tonne

As regulation develops and buyers become more attentive to quality, the infrastructure surrounding each credit carries more weight.

Pierre Rouge Capital's strategy is built on that layer of the market: originating projects, supporting certification, providing private credit to projects, and maintaining a register of the provenance and movement of verified tonnes.

For Garnet Harrison and Pierre Rouge Capital, the long-term opportunity in carbon markets rests on the fundamentals behind every tonne: the land, the project, the measurement, the documentation, and the record that follows it.
