“Children naturally want to know who did it,” said Clarissa Chiffon. “Salz and Peppa also encourage them to ask why.”

That simple question opens the door to a deeper conversation. A person can make a poor choice without being a bad person. Understanding someone’s circumstances does not erase responsibility, but it can change how we respond.

Instead of ending with punishment or humiliation, the mystery concludes with honesty, compassion and a chance to make things right.

“I wanted children to experience the excitement of solving a mystery without teaching them that every mystery must end with a villain,” Chiffon said.

The message is woven into the adventure rather than presented as a separate lesson. Children first experience the fun of searching for clues. Empathy emerges naturally when the final piece of the mystery falls into place.

A Read-Aloud That Encourages Children to Participate

Written for children ages 3 to 6, Salz & Peppa™ in the Missing Pizza is designed to make story time interactive.

Salz & Peppa™ in the Missing Pizza introduces readers to characters including Vinny the Squirrel and the wonderfully dramatic Pickles the Pigeon. Each brings a distinct personality to the investigation and helps create a world children can recognize and revisit.

The next picture-book adventure, Salz & Peppa™ in The Mop Monster!, is currently in development with the original illustrator. The new story will reunite the characters for another mystery that combines gentle suspense, humor, and heart.
