The 2024 USA Team Handball National Championships are officially underway, marking another milestone in the growth of the sport in the United States. With teams from across the country competing in various divisions, the tournament showcases elite talent and continues to push team handball into the national spotlight.

Held at The Podium in Spokane, Washington, this year’s championships have drawn a record number of participants, reflecting the sport’s increasing popularity. The tournament features men’s and women’s divisions, as well as collegiate and amateur club competitions, ensuring that players at all levels have a chance to compete for a national title.

Team handball, a fast-paced and high-scoring sport that has been a staple of international competition for decades, has struggled to gain mainstream attention in the U.S. However, with growing youth participation and the success of American players competing abroad, interest in the sport has surged in recent years.

In the men’s elite division, reigning champions New York City Team Handball Club are looking to defend their title against a strong field of challengers, including teams from Chicago, Los Angeles, and Houston. Meanwhile, on the women’s side, the San Francisco CalHeat squad is favored to make a deep run after dominating the regular season.

“This year’s championships are the biggest we’ve ever had,” said a USA Team Handball representative. “It’s a great sign of progress for the sport, and with the Los Angeles Olympics coming in 2028, we hope to see even more growth in the coming years.”

Beyond the competition, the tournament also serves as a scouting opportunity for USA Team Handball officials, who are looking to identify talent for the national team as they prepare for upcoming international events.

As the action unfolds in Spokane, players and fans alike are hoping that the continued growth of team handball in the U.S. will eventually lead to greater success on the world stage. With more athletes picking up the sport and more tournaments gaining traction, team handball’s future in America looks brighter than ever.
