Film Lab Africa Premieres Groundbreaking 10 Nigerian Short Films at Film Africa Festival 2024 in LondonLondon, UK – October 2024 – The British Council, through its Film Lab Africa programme, proudly showcases ten short films at London’s Film Africa Festival on Thursday, October 31, 2024. Taking place at Rich Mix, 35-47 Bethnal Green Rd, this event is part of the UK’s largest biennial celebration of African cinema. Created by emerging Nigerian filmmakers, each film showcases the compelling storytelling talents of Nigeria’s new generation, with the support of the British Council’s mission to amplify African voices on the global stage.
Film Lab Africa, an initiative by the British Council, is dedicated to nurturing Nigerian filmmaking talent and supporting African narratives in international markets. This collaboration between the British Council and Film Africa underscores the innovative creativity coming from Nollywood’s fresh voices. Brenda Fashugba, Creative Economy Lead for Sub-Saharan Africa and Head of Arts Nigeria at the British Council, shared, “We’re incredibly proud to support dynamic Nigerian filmmakers in sharing authentic, compelling stories. Film Lab Africa equips these talents with essential skills and helps ensure their voices reach global audiences.”
The Nigerian Principal Partner, AfroWren Productions Limited, led by Olasunkanmi Adebayo, played a crucial role in supporting and guiding these emerging filmmakers through the Film Lab Africa programme, fostering collaboration with industry leaders and enhancing their production skills. “These films are more than stories; they express Nigeria’s resilience, culture, and vision. Film Lab Africa is proud to champion Nigerian cinema in the global arena at Film Africa,” Adebayo explained.

The event provides invaluable networking and insight into distribution and cultural diplomacy.
