Florida State University’s baseball and softball programs delivered statement wins this week, reinforcing their status as top contenders in the NCAA. Both teams secured important victories against in-state rivals, keeping their strong seasons on track.
The Seminoles’ baseball team continued their undefeated start, taking down the University of Florida in a thrilling 7-5 contest. The game featured a back-and-forth battle, but a clutch three-run homer in the seventh inning propelled Florida State to victory.
Their pitching staff also played a crucial role, with ace right-hander Carson Montgomery delivering six solid innings, striking out nine batters while allowing just two earned runs. The bullpen closed things out with dominant relief work, securing the Seminoles’ 15th consecutive win.
On the softball diamond, Florida State’s women’s team showcased their dominance with a 9-0 shutout win over the University of South Florida. Pitcher Kathryn Sandercock was nearly untouchable, allowing just one hit while striking out 12 batters in a complete-game performance.
The offense backed her up with timely hitting, led by All-American infielder Michaela Edenfield, who crushed a two-run home run in the third inning to extend Florida State’s lead. The win improved the Seminoles’ record to 18-3, positioning them among the top teams in the nation.
Both teams have their sights set on deep postseason runs, with baseball eyeing a return to the College World Series and softball looking to claim another Women’s College World Series title.
“These rivalry games mean a lot, but they also prepare us for bigger challenges ahead,” said FSU head baseball coach Link Jarrett. “We’re proud of how we played, but there’s still a long way to go.”
With both programs firing on all cylinders, Florida State’s dominance in spring sports continues to shine, and the Seminoles appear well on their way to another successful season.
