From a $30 Job to 180 Properties: Victor Enciso

How a Navy veteran turned secondhand supplies and a bold promise into a thriving cleaning company.

Victor Enciso remembers the stove. It was one of his first jobs, a deep-clean he accepted for just thirty dollars. After travel, supplies, and nearly ninety minutes of labor, he realized he had essentially worked for free. Most people would have quit. Enciso did not have that luxury. He had already made himself a promise, and he intended to keep it.

A Promise Born From Hardship

Before MarMaids Cleaning Service existed, Enciso served in the United States Navy. The experience was demanding, and at times it left him mentally and emotionally exhausted. He saw how poor leadership could drain morale and make people feel invisible. Rather than carry that bitterness forward, he made a decision that would shape everything to come.

One day, he told himself, he would build a company where employees felt respected, appreciated, heard, and genuinely motivated to come to work. He wanted to prove that a successful business did not require sacrificing the well-being of the people behind it.

That promise became the foundation of MarMaids.

An Entrepreneur Long Before the Uniform

Enciso's entrepreneurial instincts appeared early. At just fourteen, he launched an online web hosting business, teaching himself to code and solve technical problems along the way. He expanded the operation into a cloud and server hosting company with infrastructure across multiple international locations. By eighteen, he had built a customer base of nearly 370 clients worldwide.

That early chapter taught him lessons that would prove invaluable: how to manage operations, build customer relationships, and design efficient systems. More importantly, it showed him what determination could accomplish. Years later, those same principles would resurface in a very different industry.

The Unexpected Spark

Before founding the company, Enciso owned an Airbnb property, renting individual rooms to travelers. Over time, he collected more than 300 written reviews praising the property's cleanliness, thoughtful organization, and welcoming atmosphere. Many guests said they had rarely experienced such comfort and attention to detail elsewhere. Some even became friends.

Those interactions planted a question. If he could consistently create a memorable experience in his own property, why could he not help other vacation rental owners achieve the same standard? That question gave birth to MarMaids Cleaning Service in 2023.

Starting With Almost Nothing

After leaving the Navy, Enciso committed himself fully to the business. He had no investors, no partners, and no steady income to fall back on. With limited resources, he bought basic equipment using credit cards and searched secondhand stores for affordable supplies, including his first vacuum.

Every dollar mattered. He cut personal spending, gave up many of the experiences typical of someone in his twenties, and at times borrowed money from family just to cover his mortgage. He recalls asking relatives for enough to make a payment, promising to repay them within six days once scheduled jobs were complete.

"I went from borrowing money to pay my mortgage and cleaning a stove for $30 to building a company serving more than 180 properties," he says. "None of it happened overnight, and none of it happened without sacrifice."

Building a Reputation One Property at a Time

Slowly, dependable work attracted attention. Individual jobs grew into relationships with real estate investors, property managers, agents, and short-term rental operators across Hampton Roads. Enciso's background as an Airbnb host became a genuine advantage. He understood that a great rental required more than a clean floor. It required reliable scheduling, clear communication, and a real sense of what guests expected.

Clients began recommending him to others, and the company grew through word of mouth. A one-person operation became a dedicated team specializing in vacation rental turnovers, residential cleaning, and commercial work.

Leadership That Honors the Promise

As MarMaids expanded, Enciso faced a new test: growing a team without losing the values that inspired him. He refused to recreate the workplace culture that had once worn him down. Instead, he wanted employees to know their contributions mattered.

In the early days, he personally trained each new hire, worked beside them, and offered constructive feedback. As the team grew to roughly twenty people, he realized encouragement alone was not enough. Support required systems. He prioritized transparent payroll, accessible property instructions, organized scheduling, and clear expectations.

"Anyone can call themselves a boss," he says. "But leadership is about creating an environment where people feel valued, supported, and motivated to succeed."

Turning Challenges Into Technology

This is where Enciso's teenage experience returned in full force. Drawing on his background in coding and server infrastructure, he began building digital tools to solve the operational headaches of a growing cleaning business. What started as simple modules evolved into a custom-built application designed specifically around the needs of cleaners, managers, and property owners.

The platform centralizes several essential functions, including:

  • Real-time scheduling, crew assignments, and property calendars.
  • Transparent payroll tracking and work records.
  • Direct communication between cleaners and management.
  • Property-specific instructions and inventory notifications.
  • Photographic documentation and progress updates.
  • Lost-and-found reporting, damage notices, and maintenance requests.

For Enciso, the goal was never technology for its own sake. It was about eliminating frustration and giving both employees and clients greater transparency. He believes technology should support people, not complicate their work.

From Uncertainty to More Than 180 Properties

The growth tells its own story. MarMaids expanded from roughly 30 properties in 2024 to 90 in 2025 and more than 180 in 2026. The team now includes approximately twenty members, dedicated coordination and training roles, and proprietary operational software.

Much of this success comes from trust. Property owners entrust MarMaids with valuable investments, so the company emphasizes accountability, attention to detail, and proactive communication. For Airbnb and VRBO hosts, the hardest part of ownership is coordinating reliable cleaning between checkouts and arrivals. MarMaids removes that stress, allowing owners to focus on their guests and their investments.

A Different Definition of Success

Despite the numbers, Enciso does not measure achievement in revenue alone. "My greatest accomplishment isn't the number of properties we manage," he says. "It's knowing that I've created opportunities for people and built a workplace where their contributions matter."

What makes his story distinctive is not simply that he built a company from nothing. It is that he built it around a promise to create a better environment than the one he once endured. With every new property, every new hire, and every system improvement, he moves closer to that vision: proving that profitability, innovation, employee well-being, and customer satisfaction can thrive together.
