Houston Conference Gives Social Workers and Therapists the Business Education Their Degrees Left Out
A Licensed Clinical Social Worker and IRS Enrolled Agent helps 200 professionals bridge the gap between clinical training and business ownership.

HOUSTON, TX. Social workers, therapists, and counselors spend years learning how to care for clients. They study ethics, assessment, intervention, and treatment, then complete supervised hours and pass licensing exams. What most of them never study is how to run a business. Yet a growing number of these professionals are opening private practices, launching consulting firms, and building service-based companies of their own.
That gap is the reason the SWT Business Conference exists. The two-day event, taking place January 22 and 23, 2027 at The Ballroom at Tanglewood in Houston, is designed specifically for social workers, therapists, counselors, and other licensed helping professionals who are already in business or preparing to build one. Approximately 200 attendees are expected.
A Founder Who Sees Both Sides
Conference founder Chassidy Grady, EA, LCSW, works at an unusual intersection. She is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and an IRS Enrolled Agent, the highest credential the IRS awards to tax professionals. Through her firm, Grady Tax Plus LLC, she provides tax preparation, bookkeeping, IRS resolution, and business finance strategy, with a significant share of her clients coming from the social work and therapy community.
From that vantage point, Grady saw the same pattern repeat. Highly trained clinicians would open a practice and then find themselves facing questions their education never addressed: how to price their services, how to pay themselves, how to keep clean financial records, how to prepare for taxes, and how to market a practice without compromising professional standards. Many were figuring it out alone, often after costly mistakes.

Her work has earned recognition across the financial services industry, including 2023 Trailblazer in the Tax Industry, 2023 Bookkeeper of the Year, 2024 Finance Expert of the Year, and 2025 Tax Preparer of the Year.
Clinical Expertise Is Not Business Expertise
The central idea behind the conference is straightforward. Being excellent at serving clients and being equipped to run a sustainable business are two different skill sets, and helping professionals deserve access to both. The SWT Business Conference brings that business education into one room, built around the realities of the helping professions rather than generic entrepreneurship advice.
Attendees can expect sessions spanning the core areas that determine whether a practice thrives or struggles, including financial management, taxes, marketing, operations, technology, compliance, and leadership. The speaker roster currently includes 14 experts, with more to be announced.
Building Connections Beyond the Conference
Beyond the educational sessions, the SWT Business Conference offers attendees an opportunity to connect with professionals who understand the unique challenges of building a business in the helping professions. For many clinicians, running a private practice can feel isolating, particularly when they are responsible for client care, administrative duties, financial decisions, and business development. Connecting with experienced speakers and fellow practitioners can help attendees exchange ideas, discover practical solutions, and develop relationships that extend beyond the two-day event. These connections can also create opportunities for collaboration, mentorship, and continued professional growth as attendees work toward building more sustainable and financially sound practices.
Why It Matters Now
Communities across the country depend on social workers and therapists, and demand for their services continues to grow. When clinicians build businesses that are financially stable, they are better positioned to keep their doors open, serve more clients, and avoid the burnout that comes from carrying both clinical work and business uncertainty without support.
For Grady, the goal is a profession where helping others and building a sustainable income are not competing priorities. The conference is designed to help attendees leave with clearer financial systems, stronger business foundations, and a network of peers walking the same path.
