Nike Launches Ambitious New Sustainability Initiative Aimed at Using 100% Recycled Materials in Products by 2027

Nike, a global leader in athletic wear, has announced an ambitious new sustainability initiative aimed at using 100% recycled materials in its products by 2027. This initiative builds on the company’s longstanding efforts to reduce its environmental footprint and combat climate change through responsible manufacturing processes and material sourcing.

The initiative comes as part of Nike’s broader strategy to become more sustainable across all aspects of its business. In addition to committing to using only recycled materials in its product lines, Nike plans to further reduce its carbon emissions, advance its circular product model, and improve resource management. The company’s new goals are in line with its commitment to the Paris Agreement on climate change, aiming to reach net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.

“We are setting a new standard for sustainability in the athletic wear industry,” said [Spokesperson's Name], Nike’s Chief Sustainability Officer. “By incorporating 100% recycled materials, we are not just reducing waste, but also helping to accelerate the global transition to a circular economy. This is a critical step toward preserving the planet for future generations.”

Nike’s commitment to sustainable practices is not new. The company has been investing in and developing sustainable technologies for years. In 2019, Nike announced its goal to reduce its carbon footprint by 30% by 2030, and this new initiative builds on that promise.

By 2027, Nike plans to incorporate more recycled polyester, nylon, and cotton into its products, as well as ensure that its supply chain sources and manufacturing processes follow sustainable practices. The company is also making investments in innovative recycling technologies, including materials that can be recycled multiple times, to meet the needs of its future product designs.

This initiative is expected to significantly reduce Nike's reliance on virgin materials, which can be resource-intensive to produce. Recycled materials have the added benefit of reducing the overall environmental impact of manufacturing, from raw material extraction to transportation and waste.

Nike has been working closely with its suppliers and manufacturing partners to ensure that its vision for 100% recycled materials can be implemented across its entire product range. The company will also partner with external experts in sustainability and innovation to develop the necessary systems and processes that will allow it to reach its ambitious 2027 target.

Nike’s customers will see the results of this new initiative in the coming years, with the first products featuring 100% recycled materials expected to hit shelves in late 2025. The company plans to showcase its progress regularly, providing transparency and tracking key milestones on its website.

Sustainability has become a core focus for Nike, and this new initiative underscores the company’s leadership role in addressing climate change. By leading the way in sustainable fashion, Nike is setting an example for other brands and industries to follow, ensuring that innovation and environmental responsibility go hand in hand.
