NATIONWIDE - DECEMBER 2025 - (USAnews.com) On the evening of December 5th, 2025, the literary world witnessed a moment that could transform the perception of poetry as an art form. At the Dunadura Restaurant in Abuja, over 70 literary enthusiasts, corporate executives, and industry leaders gathered for an unforgettable evening. Amidst laughter, nostalgia, and deep introspection, Adetimilehin "Vic’Adex" Inioluwa Victor, a polymath with an extraordinary creative range, launched his highly anticipated twin poetry collections, Poetry Has All My Pain and Love Through the Eyes of a Village Boy.

In a world where it is often said that poetry doesn’t pay, Vic’Adex’s event challenged those assumptions. His launch was not just a typical book reading but a cultural event that captivated the audience, taking them on a transformative journey through his words. What began as a poetry reading quickly evolved into a dynamic theatrical performance, a night filled with performances moving seamlessly from humor to romance, heartbreak, and social commentary. A notable highlight was the opening bid for the first copy of the book, which reached 1 million Naira, setting a new benchmark for literary events.

The Million-Naira Moment: Breaking New Ground

The atmosphere was electric as Mr. Afeez Olajire, CEO of Ace, made the significant opening bid, setting the tone for the rest of the evening. "Sometimes you set a bar, and then someone comes out of the blue and raises it," said the fundraising moderator, renowned poet Pariolodo, as the crowd erupted in applause.

Vic’Adex’s journey from a "Village Boy" to a literary icon was symbolized by this bold gesture. The evening unfolded as a metaphor for his own path, unexpected, impactful, and full of promise. As the bids continued, they represented more than just financial support; they were symbolic of the community’s embrace of Vic’Adex as a powerful literary voice for the future.

A Night of Theatre: From Nostalgia to Protest

The heart of the event lay in its performances, turning the book launch into an immersive theatrical experience that blurred the lines between spoken word and live performance.

Spoken word artists Pariolodo and KJ kicked off the performance with a humorous skit, reenacting a '90s secondary school romance. Channeling characters “Ajasco the Loverman” and “Adunni,” they read love letters that transported the audience back to a time when love was described as the “sugar in my garri” and the “mosquito coil of my heart.” Their humorous portrayal set a nostalgic tone, followed by a tender reading of "Adunni," a romantic poem from Love Through the Eyes of a Village Boy, which evoked deep emotion.

The energy shifted with a "Mashup Medley," where Vic’Adex and singer Anjolaoluwa merged iconic pop anthems with the author’s raw emotional verses. They began with James Blunt’s “You’re Beautiful” paired with the poem "Surrender at First Sight," followed by a heartbreak-laden performance with Styl-Plus’s “Olufunmi” and "Bleaching a Memory of Pain." The atmosphere became charged as they transitioned to social commentary, with Anjola singing Asa’s “Fire on the Mountain” while Vic’Adex delivered a poignant critique of the nation’s security crisis from his poem "Three Rivers Flow."

"Hashtags are ashes used to tag the tombstones of our tragedies," Vic’Adex recited, referencing the Chibok girls and the rubble of Baga, as the room fell silent, gripped by the weight of his words. The performance concluded on a note of resilience, as Sam Cooke’s "A Change Gon’ Come" fused with Vic’Adex’s defiant poem "We Do Not Die Here," leaving the audience deeply moved.

Physical Theatre: Defiance in Motion

In an unforgettable display of visual storytelling, spoken word artist Keesh Rowland collaborated with a contortionist to perform "We Do Not Die Here." The contortionist’s fluid movements mirrored the twisting pain and resilience within the poem, creating a lasting impression of survival. The performance highlighted the resilience of the human spirit, anchoring the evening in the theme of overcoming adversity.

The theme of survival continued with Ire’s soulful rendition of "Survival," which resonated deeply with the audience, reminding them of the strength needed to endure and rise above life’s challenges.

The Double Life of a Poet: From Consultant to Creative

While the night was filled with glitz and high-value networking, Vic’Adex offered a candid glimpse into the realities behind his creative process. Known for his work as a sharp Communications Consultant, Vic’Adex shared the demanding balance of corporate life and creative passion.

“We joke that during the day I’m a consultant, and at night I’m a poet,” Vic’Adex explained after the event. “I would work from 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM, come home by 9:00 PM, and then work on editing the manuscript until midnight or 1:00 AM to make sure this collection was ready.”

Vic’Adex described his poetry collections as the culmination of 11 years of personal journaling, a process he humorously referred to as "the book that finally made it out of the group chat."

A Message to the Readers: Finding Connection Through Poetry

When asked what he hoped readers would take away from his dual collections, Vic’Adex’s response was simple, yet profound. "I want them to feel seen," he said. "I hope that when someone picks up this book, they know that they are not alone, that whatever they’re going through, someone else has been there, too, and came out of it."

Poetry Has All My Pain and Love Through the Eyes of a Village Boy are now available for purchase, each featuring cutting-edge "scan-and-watch" technology that links readers to digital performances of the poems and commentary from Vic’Adex, offering a deeper insight into his current philosophy on the book's themes.

Vic’Adex's theatrical book launch shattered the myth that poetry doesn’t pay, raising 1 million Naira and captivating Abuja with powerful performances.
