His leadership background includes serving as a General Superintendent for a general contractor, where he oversaw field operations, customer relations, and workplace safety initiatives.

In 1992, Bissonette accepted an appointment as Emergency Coordinator for the Town of Clarence, New York. The role placed him at the center of emergency preparedness and response planning for large scale incidents affecting the community.
Over the years, he coordinated response efforts for chemical plant fires, hazardous material incidents, severe regional snowstorms, long term power outages, and anhydrous ammonia releases. Each situation reinforced the importance of preparation, communication, and calm leadership during uncertainty.
But it was the tragedy of Continental Airlines Flight 3407 that brought national attention to Bissonette’s leadership approach.
On February 12, 2009, Continental Flight 3407 crashed into a neighborhood in Clarence Center, New York, killing all forty nine people aboard the aircraft and one person on the ground. The disaster became one of the deadliest aviation accidents in recent American history.
As Emergency Coordinator for the Town of Clarence, Bissonette was responsible for overall incident coordination during the aftermath. His responsibilities included supporting fire ground operations, assisting displaced residents, coordinating recovery efforts, managing communication among agencies, and helping oversee the neighborhood remediation strategy.
The complexity of the response required not only technical coordination, but compassion.
Bissonette believes that effective crisis leadership must account for everyone affected, including victims’ families, first responders, volunteers, residents, media personnel, and the broader community.
