Gallery 30 South presents Easy Riders, an exceptional exhibition by Lyndell Dean Wolff, from December 2025 through January 2026. This collection captures the essence of biker culture through a series of photorealistic paintings. Known for his detailed rendering and neorealistic style, Wolff’s work brings the spirit of the open road to life, depicting moments of motion and stillness in equal measure. His paintings transport the viewer into a world of freedom, rebellion, and quiet reflection, characteristic of the motorcycle subculture.
What distinguishes Wolff’s art is his ability to merge the technical and artistic worlds. A trained craftsman with over four decades of experience as a woodworker, Wolff’s background in the tactile world of carpentry and design informs his approach to painting. His mastery of materials, his precision, and his dedication to perfecting his craft are evident in every brushstroke. For Wolff, the process of painting parallels the painstaking attention to detail that he applied in woodworking, creating a depth of realism rarely seen in contemporary painting. His deep understanding of his subjects, whether motorcycle engines, riders, or the culture they inhabit, is what gives his work its undeniable authenticity.
Wolff's fascination with his subject matter is apparent in Easy Riders. The paintings vibrate with life, not only showcasing the motorcycles and riders but also the larger lifestyle they represent. These works embody a culture driven by a love for the road, self-expression, and the pursuit of freedom. The paintings are filled with motion, but they also invite the viewer to pause and reflect on moments of quiet contemplation within the rush of life.
As noted by Car Kulture DeLuxe, "Lyndell Dean Wolff did not choose art as a career. It wasn’t a conscious decision to become an artist. Rather, it was just something that was always assumed; he was always referenced as being the artistic one. He can’t recall a time that he didn’t draw." This lifelong connection to art has shaped his distinctive style, which combines his technical craftsmanship with his passion for realistic representation.
In addition to the Easy Riders series, the exhibition also includes selected works from two of Wolff’s previous bodies of work, Wabi-Sabi and Cognitive Phenomenology. These series, which explore the themes of imperfection and the nature of perception, offer a broader understanding of Wolff’s artistic vision and his dedication to capturing complex ideas in a visual medium. While Easy Riders reflects Wolff's interest in biker culture, Wabi-Sabi and Cognitive Phenomenology delve into philosophical ideas about the human experience, showing the range and depth of Wolff's work as an artist.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Lyndell Dean Wolff’s artistic journey began in Southern California, where he was raised in the East Los Angeles area of the San Gabriel Valley. Though he spent much of his career as a professional woodcarver, Wolff always had a deep passion for painting. He studied painting at California State University, Long Beach, where he honed his skills while working as a full-time woodcarver. His passion for craftsmanship led him to win an international pipe-carving competition, which included an exhibition in Europe and initiation into the pipe-carving fraternity La Confrerie des Maitres Pipiers de Saint-Claude in France.
Upon returning to the U.S., Wolff continued his work as a woodcarver, collaborating with a master woodworker to create intricate designs and fine furniture. This partnership led to a business where they designed prototypes, restored and fabricated Art Nouveau and Craftsman-style furniture, and specialized in fine hardwood joinery. However, after his mentor passed away, Wolff left the woodshop and turned his focus to the film industry.
Over the next few decades, Wolff built an impressive career in film, contributing to more than 59 motion picture credits. His work in the entertainment industry included everything from set design to prop creation, and he became an integral member of IATSE Local 44. Despite his success in film, Wolff’s passion for art remained. In the late 1990s, after a particularly exhausting year in the industry, Wolff took a break from film to focus on a woodcarving commission for a local Catholic parish and to return to painting.
This return to art marked a significant turning point in Wolff’s life. Encouraged by the response to his work, he began exhibiting his paintings in 2016. With his deep background in craftsmanship and his growing passion for painting, Wolff found a new calling as a full-time artist. His dedication to fine art continues to thrive today, as he now focuses on creating works that combine his technical mastery with his creative vision.
