Michigan Claims First National Title Since 1997 With Dominant Win Over Washington

The Michigan Wolverines are national champions once again. With a dominant 34–13 victory over the Washington Huskies in the College Football Playoff National Championship, Michigan completed a perfect season and secured its first title since 1997.

The Wolverines set the tone early, relying on their powerful running game and a stifling defense that smothered Washington’s high-flying offense. Running back Blake Corum led the charge, rushing for 134 yards and two touchdowns, while quarterback J.J. McCarthy managed the game effectively, making key throws and avoiding costly mistakes.

Defensively, Michigan was relentless. The Huskies, who entered the game with one of the nation’s most prolific passing attacks, struggled to find any rhythm. Heisman finalist Michael Penix Jr. was under constant pressure, throwing two interceptions as Michigan’s defensive front overwhelmed Washington’s offensive line.

Head coach Jim Harbaugh, who had faced criticism in past years for failing to win big games, finally delivered the championship Michigan fans had been waiting for. “This team embodies everything Michigan football stands for—toughness, discipline, and perseverance,” Harbaugh said after the game.

The victory caps a dominant season in which Michigan went 15-0, defeating top-ranked teams such as Alabama and Ohio State along the way. With this championship, the Wolverines have firmly reestablished themselves as one of college football’s premier programs.

As celebrations continue in Ann Arbor, the focus now shifts to the future. With key players heading to the NFL, Michigan will face new challenges in 2024. However, for now, the Wolverines and their fans can savor a long-awaited championship moment.
