The 110th Rose Bowl delivered a classic showdown between two college football powerhouses, as Michigan edged out Alabama 27–20 in a thrilling overtime battle. The victory propelled the Wolverines to the national championship game, marking a defining moment for head coach Jim Harbaugh’s program.

Michigan’s defense set the tone early, limiting Alabama’s high-powered offense and forcing the Crimson Tide to settle for field goals. Linebacker Junior Colson led the charge, recording 10 tackles and a key sack on Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe.

On offense, Michigan quarterback J.J. McCarthy showed poise under pressure, completing 17-of-27 passes for 221 yards and a touchdown. Running back Blake Corum was the difference-maker, rushing for 83 yards and two touchdowns, including the game-winning score in overtime.

Alabama fought back in the second half, with Milroe leading a late touchdown drive to tie the game at 20–20. The Crimson Tide had a chance to win in regulation, but Michigan’s defense forced a crucial stop, sending the game into overtime.

In the extra period, Michigan’s defense delivered once again, stopping Alabama on fourth down and setting up Corum’s game-winning touchdown run. As Corum crossed the goal line, Michigan players stormed the field in celebration, knowing they had just secured one of the biggest wins in program history.

Harbaugh, who had faced criticism for past playoff failures, was emotional after the game. “This team never quits,” he said. “We’ve worked all year for this moment, and I couldn’t be prouder of these guys.”

The Rose Bowl victory sent Michigan to the College Football Playoff National Championship, where they would go on to claim their first national title since 1997. The Wolverines’ triumph over Alabama proved they were ready for the biggest stage, solidifying their place atop college football.
