Holloman Care is proud to introduce Consumer Directed Services (CDS), a Medicaid-based program designed to provide individuals with disabilities the support they need to live independently. CDS is comparable to in-home care, offering essential services that enable recipients to manage their daily lives autonomously.
Nationwide - June 17, 2024 (USANews.com) - Participants in the CDS program receive training to hire their own attendants who assist with daily tasks. This program empowers individuals with disabilities to live safely in their chosen home environment rather than in a restrictive institutional setting.A key feature of the Holloman Care CDS program is that consumers manage their own services. The individual receiving CDS services acts as the employer of their attendant, taking on responsibilities such as locating, hiring, scheduling, and managing their attendants. Qualified friends or family members, except for spouses, legal guardians, or minors under 18, may be employed as attendants.
To qualify for CDS, an individual must:
- Be eligible for Medicaid (MO HealthNet)
- Be 18 years of age or older
- Be capable of directing their own care
- Be able to live independently with CDS assistance
- Require at least a nursing facility level of care
The Missouri Division of Senior and Disability Services (DSDS) assesses individuals on Medicaid to determine their personal care and home care needs, such as bathing, housekeeping, transportation, and laundry. Following the assessment, a personalized care plan is created and forwarded to Holloman Care CDS, which then aids in hiring the appropriate attendant.
Holloman Care manages several administrative tasks for CDS consumers, including:
- Conducting criminal and abuse/neglect background checks on attendant candidates
- Processing time clock entries and payroll for attendants
- Assisting with necessary paperwork
In addition to general disability services, Holloman Care places a special emphasis on veteran care. Recognizing the unique needs of veterans, Holloman Care offers tailored support to ensure veterans receive the high-quality care they deserve. Veterans often face specific challenges, including service-related disabilities and the need for specialized medical and psychological support. Holloman Care's CDS program addresses these challenges by providing veterans with the flexibility to choose their own attendants, ensuring they receive care from individuals they trust and who understand their unique circumstances.
Veterans eligible for the CDS program must meet the same criteria as other participants, including Medicaid eligibility and the ability to direct their own care. Holloman Care works closely with veteran organizations to streamline the assessment and care planning process, ensuring veterans receive timely and appropriate services.
Holloman Care's veteran-focused services include:
- Specialized training for attendants on veterans' issues
- Coordination with veteran health services for comprehensive care
- Assistance with navigating veteran-specific benefits and resources
Individuals enrolled in this Medicaid-funded program have specific responsibilities, but Holloman Care provides assistance, support, and training to ensure they manage their care effectively. By focusing on both general disability and veteran care, Holloman Care aims to enhance the quality of life for all its consumers.
