Primal spends the majority of his time creating content, products, and services designed to help people live a more optimal and prepared lifestyle.
Given his dual roles as an indie music artist and a savvy entrepreneur, Primal Optics was the perfect person to discuss the potential impact of AI on the music industry. Artificial Intelligence has been making significant strides in various sectors, and the music industry is no exception. Primal Optics shared his insights on how AI might shape the future of music creation, distribution, and consumption.
"AI has the potential to revolutionize the music industry in numerous ways," said Primal Optics. "From assisting in the creation process to enhancing the listening experience, AI can open up new possibilities for artists and listeners alike. However, it's crucial to strike a balance between technology and human creativity to maintain the authenticity and emotional connection that music brings."
Primal Optics emphasized the importance of embracing AI as a tool rather than a replacement for human creativity. He believes that artists can leverage AI to streamline their creative process, experiment with new sounds, and reach wider audiences. However, he also stressed the significance of preserving the human touch and emotional depth that only artists can provide.
Q: Should music artists be concerned about AI?
"Absolutely. I think it would be foolish not to be. Think about it... In less than 1 year, AI has gone from less than cartoon quality to photorealism that's virtually impossible to distinguish from reality when it comes to visuals. AI can already write your songs, clone your voice, write melodies, produce the beat, and create the visuals... and it can do it instantaneously. It accomplished all of this functional evolution and so much more in LESS THAN A YEAR. What do you think it's going to do with 3-5 more years?
AI can 100% replace an artist. Hell, it can and will replace most things and people. It's also going to give people who aren't artists or creators already the ability to become one as quickly as they think about doing it. This means all content online is going to be ridiculously saturated no matter the niche. Whether it's a piece of music, a book, a blog post, photos, or videos, it doesn't matter. AI can create it all and it can do it better than most people already in less than 1 year since it was unveiled to the world. It's only going to get smarter and faster. This is bad news for mediocre creatives. It's even more important to become masters of our crafts now and to be authentic in our work. That's the only thing that will give us the edge against AI. Real creators... Real artists... the ones who aren't afraid to be themselves and keep it real with their audiences will be the ones to prevail in the coming years.
AI will greatly change every industry, not just the music industry, but specifically for the music industry we're going to see big changes to the way artist royalties work and how we go about protecting our work."
Q: As a music artist, how do you feel about AI and are you currently leveraging AI to help you create?
"I don't fully know how I feel about AI as a music artist just yet. I don't like the fact that someone could clone my voice and use it to make a song about anything they please. What happens when a hater decides to go off the rails? Are they going to make something of me endorsing something I don't support saying shit that I've never said? Mark my words... people can and will utilize all this AI to blackmail, create propaganda, and ruin lives.
On the other hand, people will use it for great things and smart creators will utilize it to aid their creative process and do great things for the world. Writing prompts is an art form itself. Knowing how to speak to the AI to get what you want is critical. For me, I use it for creating some of my track artwork, helping me with ideas, researching, and mostly simple things right now with music. I know it can do much more, but I prefer to retain as much of the human element as possible.
AI can mix and master your music if you're not an engineer. It can make you a beat if you're not a producer. It can give you lyrics if you lack the life experience. It can design your graphics if you're not a designer. It can honestly do it all, but again, I want to retain as much me for my creative work as I can. Plus, I enjoy the entire process of creating my music. So I keep the AI involvement to a minimum when it comes to my tunes. However, for my businesses, I use it every way I can to streamline our workflows and eliminate the work I'd rather not be doing. Video scripting, analyzing data, automating processes, and content creation, and I am always brainstorming on new innovative ways to use and create things with AI. Maybe in the future, I might develop a software product or something with it.
I think it's also important to note for people that there are a plethora of AI tools out there beyond Midjourney and Chat GPT. These two seem to be the primary topics you see in your social feeds but there's so many other great tools out there once you go down the AI rabbit hole."
As the music industry continues to evolve, Primal Optics remains at the forefront, exploring the intersection of technology and artistry. His forward-thinking approach and dedication to authenticity make him a valuable voice in the discussion surrounding AI's impact on the music industry.
