The move follows financial troubles faced by Diamond Sports Group, the parent company of Bally Sports, prompting NHL teams to seek alternative broadcast solutions to maintain audience reach.

The Ducks’ decision represents a significant shift in how the franchise delivers content to its fan base. By moving to Victory+, the team is embracing the growing trend of direct-to-consumer streaming, which has become increasingly popular across major sports leagues. Fans will now be able to access live game coverage, exclusive behind-the-scenes content, and additional team programming through the platform, while KCOP-TV will provide a free-to-air option for local viewers.

This transition comes in response to the financial instability of Diamond Sports Group, which previously controlled Bally Sports' regional networks. Facing bankruptcy, the company struggled to maintain its broadcast agreements, creating uncertainty for teams relying on its services. Rather than waiting for a resolution, the Ducks took proactive steps to ensure uninterrupted access for their fans by establishing a new broadcast partnership.

Aaron Teats, President of Business Operations for the Ducks, expressed enthusiasm for the shift. “This move allows us to bring Ducks hockey directly to our fans in a more accessible and flexible way,” Teats stated. “We’re committed to adapting to the changing media landscape while ensuring that as many fans as possible can enjoy our games.”

While the move is expected to appeal to younger, tech-savvy audiences who prefer streaming over traditional cable, it also raises concerns about accessibility for older fans or those without high-speed internet. The team has assured its fan base that Victory+ will be compatible with multiple devices and will offer a variety of subscription plans, ensuring affordability and ease of access.

This change aligns with a broader trend in sports broadcasting, where teams and leagues are taking more control over their content distribution. As digital streaming continues to rise, the Ducks' success with this transition could serve as a model for other franchises facing similar broadcast uncertainties.
