Vanda Ayrapetyan’s journey is one that embodies resilience, versatility, and authenticity—three qualities that have propelled her through a career in banking while allowing her creative side to flourish. As a first-generation Armenian-American, Vanda has navigated a unique path, balancing a corporate career with her passion for literature, public speaking, and community service. It’s not just her banking expertise that sets her apart; it’s the way she weaves stories to connect with people and inspire change.
The Early Years: A Global Perspective
Vanda’s story began with a deep curiosity about the world around her. From an early age, she sought to understand the complexities of political and economic systems, leading her to study Political Science (with an emphasis on International Relations) at Occidental College. Her honors thesis focused on identity politics and the Cypriot conflict, showing her knack for exploring global issues from a unique perspective. However, it was her next step that solidified her future in the world of banking and international affairs.
After completing her undergraduate degree, Vanda pursued a Master’s in International Economic Affairs at The George Washington University. Here, she honed her expertise in international markets and policy, eventually landing a prestigious internship with Citibank’s Global Transaction Services in New York City. This opportunity marked the beginning of an illustrious career in corporate banking, which would span years and see her advising public sector and multinational corporate clients on such topics as cash and liquidity management, working capital optimization, and foreign exchange risk strategies. Vanda’s deep interest in global affairs keeps her closely attuned to political and economic developments, enabling her to provide clients with timely insights and informed guidance on issues that directly impact their international operations.
Making Waves in Corporate Banking
Vanda’s time in the corporate banking world at Bank of America and Citibank has been marked by an impressive ability to build relationships. Known for her technical expertise and natural charisma, she earned a reputation as a relationship manager who understands clients' needs and navigates complex situations with ease. However, it wasn’t just about the numbers for Vanda; it was about the people. She realized early on that success in business isn’t just about data—it’s about telling the story behind that data.
"I’ve always believed that everything and everyone represents some kind of a story. The most successful people genuinely realize the importance of tapping into these stories to make lasting connections, whether it's to people or to ideas," Vanda reflects. "Even when I’m presenting a large amount of data to clients, I advise them that on its own, leveraging the data means nothing if you don’t analyze and understand the overarching story it’s trying to tell you about your business. Storytelling is the glue that holds the puzzle together; effective public speaking is what captures the audience’s focus on the completed puzzle."

Combining Storytelling with Banking
Vanda’s ability to weave storytelling into her corporate career became one of her greatest assets. She took her skills to the next level, teaching a masterclass on the "Art of Storytelling in Sales" to over 90 Bank of America associates. This was no ordinary training session—it was a reflection of how storytelling can transform relationships and drive success.
Her love for storytelling led her to explore other creative avenues. Vanda is also the author of Audrina’s 1st Tooth Party, a children’s book that inspires young readers to follow their hearts. As someone who understands the power of stories, Vanda has donated 100% of the book’s profits to charitable causes, including a $10,000 donation to the Children of Armenia Fund, with matching funds from her previous employer. The donation went towards constructing a family center in rural Armenia that helps those in need with vital services, including early childhood education and speech therapy.
"My goal has always been to give back, especially to causes that help children learn and grow," says Vanda. "Literacy and education are two of the most important issues to me, and I’m thrilled that my book can contribute to such causes. Being the daughter of immigrants, my parents always stressed the importance of education as being the cornerstone of success, whether personal or professional.”
The Global Citizen: Embracing Diversity and Giving Back
Beyond her professional achievements, Vanda has made it a point to embrace her cultural roots. As an Armenian-American, she finds deep meaning in being part of the largest Armenian diaspora in the United States. Living in Los Angeles, she enjoys the city’s rich diversity, which she celebrates through global travel, supporting both local and international artists, sharing her cultural learnings, and spending time with her family and pets.
Her philanthropic endeavors have taken her beyond her children’s book, and she remains committed to supporting causes that resonate with her values. Vanda's donation of time and funds to children’s literacy and education, as well as her mentoring work, highlights the importance she places on personal growth, community, and education.
What Makes Vanda Unique

What sets Vanda apart is her ability to merge two seemingly different worlds—banking and storytelling—and use them to create a positive impact. Her career is built not just on expertise but on a deep understanding of the people behind the numbers. Whether advising global clients, speaking at industry events, or writing children’s books, Vanda’s success lies in her authenticity, her ability to relate to people, and her desire to give back.
Her natural talent for public speaking and persuasion has become a key part of her story, one that she continues to develop through lifelong learning. Vanda is currently pursuing a certificate program in "Rhetoric: The Art of Persuasive Writing and Public Speaking" from Harvard University, with the goal of eventually inspiring local schools to offer these courses to students.
