Filmed in Conway, South Carolina, the series features Lillian Pitluk, Anensky Rondon, Breanna Rose, Bruce Monforte, Robin Huffman, DeMontay Fishburne, Brice Thomas, and Amen Ra Valentine.

The novel received the 2005 Urban Ink Award, appeared on the front page of The Jersey Journal, and earned recognition through a proclamation from Jersey City Mayor Jerramiah T. Healy and a resolution from the Hudson County Board of Chosen Freeholders.

The Total Control universe established Smith’s long-standing interest in speculative storytelling, power, social structures, technology, and humanity’s relationship with forces larger than itself. He continued that universe with Total Control Volume 2: Reckoning of Ascendancy and later Total Control Volume 3: REAWAKENING.

But the trajectory did not remain confined to novels.

Smith wrote Dying of a Light and later brought the story to film.
