NATIONWIDE - DECEMBER 2025 - (USAnews.com) Parkinson’s disease is often associated with symptoms like tremors, rigid movements, and fatigue. However, these physical manifestations are just part of a much broader experience. Alison Geymer and her team at Big Heart Center for Parkinson’s Wellness are revolutionizing Parkinson’s care by providing a comprehensive approach that helps individuals live their fullest lives.
The Beginning of a Vision
Alison Geymer’s journey in Parkinson’s care began in 2007. Over the years, she noticed that while traditional rehabilitation services provided some short-term relief, they often did not offer sustainable solutions for long-term well-being. As a physical therapist, she identified a gap in care that addressed the full spectrum of Parkinson’s symptoms.
In 2017, Alison began coaching Rock Steady Boxing, a specialized exercise program for Parkinson’s patients, marking a turning point in her approach to care. She soon incorporated other Parkinson’s-specific programs like PWR! Moves, Balance, and Yoga. When the pandemic disrupted traditional services, Alison saw an opportunity to create a comprehensive center dedicated to long-term, holistic care for the Parkinson’s community.
In 2023, Alison co-founded Big Heart Center for Parkinson’s Wellness with Dick Frazier, a long-time client diagnosed with Parkinson’s. Together, they created a “one-stop shop” offering care that goes beyond physical therapy, addressing the full range of needs for individuals with neurological conditions.
A Fresh Approach to Wellness
Big Heart Center is not a typical rehabilitation center. It’s a space where clients work alongside a dedicated team of professionals, including physical therapists, occupational therapists, and speech-language pathologists, to develop personalized care plans that support long-term wellness.
What sets Big Heart apart is its focus on a sustainable approach to well-being. The center emphasizes living well beyond managing Parkinson’s symptoms. From exercise classes designed for Parkinson’s patients to support for mental health and building a sense of community, Big Heart ensures each client’s unique needs are met, rather than focusing solely on the diagnosis.

More Than Just Therapy: A Comprehensive Model for Wellness
Traditional therapy generally centers on physical and speech rehabilitation. However, Big Heart expands upon this model by offering holistic services aimed at addressing the broader aspects of life affected by Parkinson’s. These include exercise programs, nutritional support, functional health resources, sleep management, and wellness support groups. These services provide individuals with the tools to manage motor and cognitive symptoms, as well as emotional well-being.
Innovative programs such as yoga, golf mobility, and cognitive training help clients regain physical function and improve brain health, providing a more complete approach to Parkinson’s care.
Building a Supportive, Empowering Community
Community is at the heart of Big Heart Center’s success. Parkinson’s disease can often lead to isolation, but Big Heart fosters a sense of belonging among its clients. The center provides an inclusive environment where patients and caregivers can support one another. Monthly support meetings offer a space for sharing experiences, learning from peers, and forming lasting bonds.
This community atmosphere contributes to both physical and emotional healing, as clients often express how integral the support network has been in their overall well-being.
Dick Frazier’s Personal Commitment
Dick Frazier, co-founder of Big Heart Center, plays a significant role in the center’s mission. Diagnosed with Parkinson’s himself, Dick is an active participant in the exercise programs, setting a powerful example of resilience for others. At 83 years old, he continues to inspire others with his commitment to staying active and involved in the Parkinson’s community.
Dick’s journey with Parkinson’s infuses the center’s mission with authenticity and empathy, underscoring their holistic, compassionate approach. “We don’t just treat the symptoms,” says Alison. “We treat the whole person. Each person’s journey with Parkinson’s is unique, and we’re here to support them every step of the way.”
Looking Ahead: A Vision for the Future
As Big Heart Center expands, Alison and her team are focused on continuing to provide comprehensive care for the Parkinson’s community. They plan to introduce new classes focused on brain health, longevity, and mental wellness, ensuring that every individual who walks through the door receives the support they need for a fulfilling, vibrant life.
By staying true to their mission of compassionate, expert care, Big Heart is not only changing the lives of people with Parkinson’s, but is also setting a new standard for how neurological conditions should be approached in rehabilitation.
