Moonlander Studios and the Art of Borderless Cinema

NATIONWIDE - DECEMBER 2025 - (USAnews.com) For Beatrix Guedes, filmmaking has never been confined to a single place. That philosophy defines Moonlander Studios, the independent production company she founded and continues to grow across Los Angeles, London and Europe, focused on arthouse indie production.

Rather than building a traditional studio model, Beatrix has developed something more fluid. Moonlander Studios operates as a creative ecosystem, developing projects with creative and production partners from multiple countries, brought together to produce auteur-driven films and series.

Beatrix’s path to this model began long before Moonlander Studios formally took shape. With a background in fashion photography, production design and experimental filmmaking, she founded the production company Selva in Sao Paulo, where she created and produced documentaries, films and TV series. In 2017 she moved to Los Angeles, initiating Latin America- USA co-productions and expanding her work internationally.

She went on to found Moonlander Studios, a platform dedicated to developing original IP and producing independent film and television, creating a slate of auteur projects where surrealism and psychological depth coexist with rigorous structure.

Her film Rupert won Best Script at the Berlin Independent Film Festival and screened internationally across multiple festivals in Cannes, Venice, Amsterdam, UK and Tokyo, confirming that her voice travels seamlessly across cultures. That momentum now carries forward into her current slate at Moonlander Studios.

At the center of that slate is The Caterpillar, a surrealist feature written and directed by Beatrix , currently packaging and to be shot in Prague in 2026. Structured as a UK, Sweden, and Czech Republic co production, the film brings together an experienced international team, including Emmy Award winning executive producer Cecilia Salguero alongside Mike Garrod (UK) , Teia Kane (USA) , René Ezra (Sweden) , and with Kevan Van Thompson - producer of Jojo Rabbit and Ballerina - as the production partner in Czech Republic. The project continues Beatrix’s exploration of psychologically rich female driven narratives while fully embracing the creative potential of cross border filmmaking.

Moonlander Studios’ international scope extends well beyond a single title. Crystalina, a high concept science fiction drama written and produced by Beatrix and directed by Peter Webber, The Girl with a Pearl Earring, Hannibal Rising ),  unfolds as a USA, UK, and Iceland co-production. A finalist at the Tribeca Film Institute Sloan Fund and ranked one of Top Projects by Women Filmmakers in Hollywood, the film centers on a woman navigating the emotional aftermath of extraterrestrial contact. It reflects Moonlander’s commitment to genre storytelling that remains intimate and character focused.

Additional projects in development include Archipelago, a noir thriller series set in Stockholm, and The Whispering Garden, a period feature set in 1920s London. Both are structured as UK - Sweden co productions.

What distinguishes Moonlander Studios is not scale but coherence. Every project begins with original intellectual property and is shaped from concept through execution within the company. This authorship driven approach allows Moonlander to maintain a consistent creative identity while working across multiple territories.

The UK now plays a key role in that vision, with Moonlander Studios establishing a new creative base in London. This expansion enables cross-border partnerships and financing structures across the U.S., the UK, and Europe, allowing projects to move fluidly between cultures while remaining anchored in a singular, auteur-driven perspective.
