Gearu Goods Tackles Overlooked Seatbelt Accessibility Challenge for Aging Drivers

Founder-led brand addresses a hidden safety issue affecting millions of older and mobility-limited drivers

Jan 19, 2026

For millions of drivers over the age of 60, a simple task like reaching for a seatbelt can be painful, frustrating, or even impossible. This often-overlooked challenge can compromise both safety and independence. While seatbelt use is legally required in nearly every US state, many drivers with limited mobility struggle to comply due to pain or restricted range of motion. The result is a widespread but under-recognized safety gap that disproportionately affects older adults and individuals recovering from injury.

Gearu Goods was created to address this exact problem through practical, thoughtfully designed accessibility tools grounded in real-world experience.

A Solution Born From Personal Experience

Gearu Goods was founded by product developer Kris Magnusson after witnessing his father struggle daily to reach his seatbelt. What began as a personal frustration quickly revealed itself as a common challenge faced by millions of drivers. The issue extends beyond age and includes individuals recovering from surgery, managing chronic pain, or experiencing temporary mobility limitations due to injury or pregnancy.

Rather than accept the lack of effective solutions available on the market, Magnusson set out to design one himself.

The Seatbelt Catcher™ and Glasses Keep™

That effort led to the creation of the Seatbelt Catcher™, a compact and easy-to-use tool that allows drivers and passengers to reach their seatbelt without twisting or strain. More than a convenience, the Seatbelt Catcher™ addresses a critical safety concern affecting over 37 million older drivers in the United States alone.

Since launching, the Seatbelt Catcher™ has been adopted by thousands of customers nationwide and continues to earn strong reviews from users who report reduced strain, improved comfort, and greater confidence behind the wheel.

Magnusson also developed the Glasses Keep™, a simple organizational solution designed to keep eyewear secure and within reach at home, in the car, or on the go. Both products are protected by patents or pending patents, reflecting Gearu Goods’ commitment to original and purpose-driven design.

From Prototype to Production

Gearu Goods evolved from early 3D-printed prototypes to professional-scale injection molding, demonstrating a strong focus on quality, durability, and consistency. Each product is personally tested and validated by Magnusson. If it does not solve a real problem in daily life, it does not move forward to production.

Commitment to Community and Accessibility

Beyond commercial success, Gearu Goods places strong emphasis on accessibility and community impact. The company has reached out to all 50 state-run Assistive Technology Act organizations, donating Seatbelt Catchers to device-loan libraries that support individuals who need mobility aids but may lack access.

“We identified a massive safety gap affecting millions of licensed drivers who struggle with the simple act of reaching their seatbelt,” says Kris Magnusson, Founder of Gearu Goods. “The Seatbelt Catcher™ turns a painful and awkward movement into an effortless one. This is about independence, safety, and dignity, and we continue to seek partnerships with organizations that share this mission.”

Growing Adoption Across Consumer and Healthcare Markets

In addition to direct-to-consumer sales, Gearu Goods products are gaining traction within occupational therapy practices, chiropractic offices, and healthcare retail settings. This growth highlights the broad applicability and real-world value of the company’s solutions.

As the brand expands, Gearu Goods remains focused on developing additional tools that improve safety, comfort, and independence through user-driven design.
