NATIONWIDE - DECEMBER 2025 - (USAnews.com) — In a world where stories transcend borders and digital platforms connect us across continents, one filmmaker is setting the stage for a new era of storytelling. Norman King IV, a Washington, D.C. native with a global perspective, is not just a filmmaker, he’s a cultural bridge, blending American and European cinematic traditions to create stories that resonate on a global scale.

From his early days of journaling and experimenting with film editing software to his international studies in Paris, Norman’s journey has been anything but conventional. Today, his work spans continents and genres, each project serving as a testament to his commitment to telling stories that are both deeply personal and universally relevant.

The Early Spark: A Passion for Connection

Growing up in Washington, D.C., Norman was immersed in a melting pot of cultures and ideas. For him, films were more than entertainment, they were a way to understand the world around him. Early on, he realized that film could be a powerful tool for exploring questions of identity, belonging, and the human experience.

“Movies were worlds we could build,” Norman recalls. “A way to take my vivid dreams and make them real, to tell a story that connected with others.”

This passion led him to learn film editing on tools like Final Cut Pro and Adobe Premiere at a young age, setting the foundation for his future as a storyteller. But Norman wasn’t content with just making films; he wanted to understand how stories could unite people, regardless of their cultural or linguistic backgrounds.

A Global Education for a Global Vision

In 2019, Norman made a pivotal decision that would transform his career: he enrolled in the Global BFA program, a partnership between Emerson College and the Paris College of Art. The program’s unique transatlantic approach allowed him to immerse himself in both American and European cinematic traditions while gaining invaluable insight into the power of storytelling across cultures.

It wasn’t just about learning the technical aspects of filmmaking. Norman also embraced the opportunity to explore the intersection of culture, language, and identity. Fluent in Portuguese, Spanish, French, and Russian, he quickly realized that mastering multiple languages wasn’t just about communication, it was about unlocking new dimensions of storytelling.

“Language is a key to understanding culture,” Norman explains. “Speaking someone’s native tongue opens up an entirely different world of connection. It’s a way to tell stories that are truly universal, not confined to one language or region.”

Crafting Stories that Resonate

During his time abroad, Norman directed several short films that delved into themes of identity, survival, and connection. But it was his work on My 2 Cents, an online talk show, that truly showcased his ability to create spaces for dialogue and exploration. The show gave young people, especially those from marginalized communities, the chance to share their voices on issues that mattered most to them.

“My goal was to empower Millennials and Gen Z to talk about the things that mattered to them, to amplify voices that are often overlooked by mainstream media,” Norman says.

The success of My 2 Cents led to the evolution of Meet the Makers, a talk show that features interviews with global creatives, from fashion designers to entertainers. Through both platforms, Norman provided a space for diverse voices to be heard and celebrated, cementing his reputation as a storyteller who amplifies others rather than focusing solely on himself.

The Breakthrough: Look At Me

In 2022, Norman’s career reached a new height with his thesis project, Look At Me, a short film that explored themes of body insecurity, identity, and romance. The film’s international cast and emotional depth garnered attention at several prestigious film festivals, including in Amsterdam, London, and Los Angeles. The film’s exploration of male body image issues, a topic often ignored in mainstream media, resonated deeply with audiences around the world.

“It was my way of addressing body insecurity from a male perspective, an issue many deal with silently,” Norman reflects.

The success of Look At Me confirmed that Norman had found his voice as a filmmaker, a storyteller capable of creating powerful narratives that bridge cultural divides.

From Filmmaker to Industry Leader

While many filmmakers struggle to find their footing post-graduation, Norman’s professional trajectory took off quickly. By 2023, he had secured a role as Assistant to the Executive Producer at PBS/WETA, where he worked on national documentaries covering topics like healthcare and public service. This position allowed him to merge his creative vision with practical industry experience, learning firsthand how large-scale media projects come to life.

“PBS was invaluable in teaching me how storytelling can drive social change,” Norman says. “It gave me the tools to bring creative projects to life within a larger organizational framework.”

The Future: A Global Stage

Today, Norman is running his own production company, NKIV LLC, in West Hollywood, where he continues to push boundaries with new projects. His talk show Meet the Makers continues to air on multiple platforms, and he is actively developing new feature films and a Western TV series, Full Cloud, with Matricalis Films.

“I’m just getting started,” Norman says. “There are monumental projects in development, and I believe we can conquer the world with them.”

Norman King IV’s work is a testament to the power of global storytelling, stories that challenge perceptions, inspire change, and connect people across cultures. With a career still in its early stages, it’s clear that Norman’s vision for the future of filmmaking is both expansive and transformative. As he continues to redefine how we connect through media, one thing is certain: his journey has only just begun.
