The Spherule Foundation’s remarkable efforts in transforming the lives of underserved communities across India have earned it well-deserved acclaim. Most notably, the foundation has been honored as the Best Social Impact Organization in India 2025 by the Evergreen Awards. This recognition underscores its far-reaching contributions to social development, with particular emphasis on education, health, gender equality, and sustainability.
A Vision to Revolutionize Social Impact
Under the leadership of Dr. Geeta Bora, the Spherule Foundation has made substantial strides in reshaping social development across India. Operating in over 20 states, the organization is leading a paradigm shift, combining cutting-edge technology with grassroots action to address some of India’s most pressing issues, poverty, gender inequality, education gaps, health disparities, and environmental challenges.
Dr. Bora, a former Silicon Valley software architect with a Ph.D. in Software Architecture, brings a distinctive skill set to the table. Her path from the tech industry to social entrepreneurship was sparked by a personal, transformative experience in rural India. In 2016, after witnessing the preventable death of a woman due to unhygienic menstrual practices, Dr. Bora resolved to leverage her expertise in technology to drive large-scale social change. The following year, she founded the Spherule Foundation, with a mission to create innovative, sustainable solutions for social inequality.

From Tech Innovator to Social Change Advocate
Dr. Geeta Bora’s transition from Silicon Valley to the nonprofit world is a story of purpose-driven transformation. Before venturing into social entrepreneurship, she had a highly successful career in technology, earning recognition for her contributions, including from former Indian President Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam.
However, a pivotal moment in her life led her to a realization: the same principles that powered the tech world, innovation, data-driven strategy, and scalability, could be applied to solve complex social problems. Inspired by the challenges she saw in India, Dr. Bora made the bold decision to use her expertise to build scalable solutions to deep-rooted social issues.
Reflecting on her transition, Dr. Bora shares, “I spent years designing systems for the digital world. When I realized the challenges facing people were just as complex, I decided to apply the same principles, creativity, data, and scalability. What we’re doing isn’t charity; it’s engineering solutions for social inequality.”
Four Pillars Driving Lasting Change
The Spherule Foundation’s success is anchored in its holistic approach to social change. The foundation operates across four key areas, Women Empowerment, Health, Education, and Environmental Sustainability, that are intricately linked, creating a cohesive ecosystem of change.
Women Empowerment and Gender Equality
Spherule is committed to empowering women, providing them with vocational training, skill development, and opportunities for self-sufficiency. The foundation also runs programs focused on gender sensitization and corporate compliance for sexual harassment laws, aiming to create safer and more equitable environments for women both in rural and corporate settings.
Health and Well-being
Spherule’s health initiatives go beyond basic services to tackle long-term public health challenges. Its Menstrual Health Awareness campaign has gained national attention, with the foundation setting a Guinness World Record and launching mobile health units to reach remote communities.
Education for All
Dr. Bora’s expertise in technology has been a driving force in transforming education in underserved areas. The foundation’s digital learning tools, such as the InstaShala app, provide STEM education to children, while scholarships and remedial classes offer critical support, especially to girls, breaking the cycle of poverty and opening doors to new opportunities.
Environmental Sustainability
The Spherule Foundation is dedicated to building sustainable communities. Their environmental initiatives include the creation of Green Schools, water conservation projects, and waste management programs, all of which contribute to a healthier environment for future generations.
A Scalable, Data-Driven Approach
Spherule Foundation’s integrated approach to social change is designed with scalability and sustainability in mind. By addressing interconnected issues, health, education, gender, and sustainability, the foundation is driving systemic change that empowers communities for the long term. Each initiative is backed by data-driven strategies that ensure measurable impact, making Spherule a leader in both innovation and accountability in the nonprofit sector.
