Taking care of an elderly parent or relative is a profound act of love, but it inevitably brings worries and a significant emotional burden. Balancing work rhythms, one's own family, and the need to monitor the health of loved ones from a distance often generates anxiety and a sense of inadequacy. In this delicate family balance, technology should represent a relief, not a further complication.
It is from this deep empathy that Care TB developed Elder TV, an innovative system capable of transforming the home television into the simplest and most reassuring home care tool available today, bridging physical distances naturally. We spoke about it with Fabio Malagoli, CEO of Care TB.
Dr. Malagoli, those who care for a family member often live with the constant worry of not being present in times of need. What is the human intuition behind 'Elder TV' and how does this tool aim to restore peace of mind to caregivers?
“At the core of developing this innovative technology is the intention to foster a more serene relationship between the elderly person and their family member, alleviating anxiety, guilt, and worry. Elder TV, unlike other tools and wearable devices on the market, requires nothing from the elderly person: the system integrated into the living environment acts autonomously thanks to the implementation of advanced AI and an intuitive mobile App used by the caregiver.”

Supporting families, simplifying care management
One of the main obstacles in introducing support tools for the elderly is complexity. Latest-generation smartphones, tablets, and applications can feel alienating or frustrating for non-digital natives, generating rejection instead of inclusion.
The winning intuition was to eliminate all friction by leveraging the most familiar and reassuring object present in almost every home: the television. Through a familiar environment, people can receive video calls, feel closer to family members, and interact without having to learn new and complicated procedures.
Many elderly people feel a sense of bewilderment when facing new devices, fearing they won't know how to use them or will "cause damage". How does the interface of Elder TV overcome this diffidence and make technology truly invisible and friendly?
“The elderly person is not required to learn any procedure. The system automatically alerts the caregiver by sending notifications via the App on their mobile phone in the event of a fall, camera disconnection, or failure to detect movement or presence. In the event that the elderly person finds themselves in a situation of danger or need, they only need to pronounce a word: "Help! Help!" to activate the system.”
Security and daily management
The management of home care is not limited to fighting a strong sense of isolation; it extends to observing daily well-being. Geriatric medicine studies confirm that remaining in one's own space while maintaining one's own pace of life contributes significantly to slowing down the person's aging process.
Having the assurance that a parent receives reminders to take medication or perform recurring activities—simply by activating the television and the cameras' two-way audio—is another useful tool for managing daily life.
Building an ecosystem of attention means lightening the mental load of the caregiver, but also of the person who, while aging, wants to maintain their independence and autonomy for as long as possible, transforming worry into a serene digital presence.
In addition to the essential aspect of visual and emotional contact, what are the practical functionalities of Elder TV that help family members on a daily basis?
“The Elder TV system offers a continuous home care solution that respects the privacy of the elderly person, allowing the camera connection to be activated only when necessary and enabling the customization of notifications and schedules based on daily habits.
The system integrates advanced artificial intelligence capable of detecting risk situations, such as falls or anomalous absences from home, sending timely alerts. In case of an emergency, the elderly person can also independently trigger a request for help via voice command, making support quick, discreet, and always available.
Everything is manageable through a single intuitive App, which allows caregivers to control the cameras, modify settings, and involve multiple caregivers, thus fostering a shared and coordinated management of family care even from a distance. The App also facilitates direct, simple, and immediate communication with the elderly person without them needing to use other devices.”

The Future of Caregiver Support
Looking to the future of caregiving means imagining tools capable of adapting dynamically to the continually evolving needs of families and vulnerable individuals. Technology must never propose itself as a substitute for human warmth, but rather as a powerful amplifier of the latter, capable of creating a secure bridge between those who receive care and those who provide it.
This approach always centers the psychological and material well-being of the entire family unit, promoting a more serene, autonomous, and protected aging process within their own home walls.
Considering the growing challenges that families face every day to balance care and work, how do you see the evolution of Elder TV in the near future, and what new tools do you imagine to support the role of caregivers even more effectively?
“Elder TV was born in Modena, where the Research and Development team works on the continuous improvement of a "Made in Italy" product built around the needs and characteristics of our society. We are already working on implementing new features capable of further lightening the caregiver's load through the management of alarms by specialized personnel, who will be able to guarantee a presence and timely intervention at any time of the day. Entertainment, through physical and mental activation managed by professionals via the platform, is certainly our next goal.”
The introduction of technological solutions designed with authentic empathy is changing the face of family care. It is no longer just about managing emergencies, but about tangibly improving the quality of everyday life.
Creating a simple and protected communication channel allows families to focus on what truly matters: the priceless value of affection, the joy of sharing, and the certainty of always being there, breaking down every obstacle or physical distance.
