The Westerly Pewaukee’s Memory Care is now open, offering holistic, personalized support for seniors with Alzheimer’s and other dementias in Lake Country.

PEWAUKEE, WI – August 26, 2025 – The Westerly Pewaukee, a new senior living community in Lake Country, has announced that its Memory Care program is now fully operational and has already welcomed its first residents. The program is designed to provide comprehensive, individualized support for those living with dementia, focusing on a holistic approach that serves mind, body, and spirit.
With Alzheimer’s and other dementia-related diseases predicted to increase significantly over the coming decades, memory care programs are becoming an increasingly vital component of senior care nationwide.
The Westerly’s approach to memory care is rooted in creating meaningful connections and purposeful engagement. The program focuses on residents’ individual interests and abilities, creating both scheduled and spontaneous opportunities for interaction. This strategy is centered on meeting individuals where they are, using their life stories to provide personalized support and a sense of continuity and autonomy.
"We believe fostering a creative spirit is essential at any age," says Meghan Davis, Director of Lifestyle at Koru Health. "Our Memory Care is designed to enhance safety, comfort, and engagement, ensuring residents receive the best possible care in a supportive environment."
To promote this holistic approach, The Westerly’s memory care program is built on several key components:
Ability-Focused Programming: This model provides a framework to help individuals reach their full potential.
Mind and Body Stimulation: Programs are targeted to maintain cognitive function, mindfulness, mobility, and physical health.
Creative Expression Opportunities: Partnerships with programs like The Arts of Aging, the Alzheimer’s Association’s Memories in the Making®, and the Alzheimer’s Poetry Project offer tailored art and writing programs.

Life Skills Stations: These themed areas are designed to activate memories and encourage purposeful engagement by incorporating familiar items from past hobbies or work.
Sensory Room: The space uses gentle lighting, calming music, and tactile objects to soothe and stimulate the senses, aiming to reduce anxiety and agitation.
Initiate Connection: DIT (Do It Together) Kits provide families and residents with prepared activities, such as simple art projects or games, to foster a sense of connection and shared moments.
The Memory Care is also designed with thoughtful architectural features, including intimate floor plans to encourage social interaction, wayfinding lighting in bathrooms to reduce the risk of falls, and a cordless wireless call system for flexible support.
The goal of the program is to create an environment where individuals can live with dignity, autonomy, and as much joy as possible.
